Another foot massage method that may be used on the bottom of the foot is thumb work. To apply this method:

  • hold the foot with one hand on either side
  • place the fingers on the top of the foot
  • the thumbs should be placed on the toe pads beneath each foot
  • stroke each toe down with the thumbs, using mild pressure
  • continue the downward stroke motion with the thumbs as you travel to the ball of your foot
  • repeat this movement in the heel and arch of the foot
  • keep going for as long as it’s fun

Another soothing foot massage technique involves pressing certain spots on the instep. To apply this method:

  • support the top of the foot with one hand
  • press and release the top of the instep with the thumb of the opposite hand
  • progressively descend the instep while continuing this pushing action
  • Continually push and release while descending to the heel

The pressure on the Achilles tendon may be reduced through achilles massage. To apply this method of foot massage:

  • with the other hand’s thumb and index finger, clasp the Achilles tendon
  • stroke downward and toward the heel
  • several times, repeat this
